Lake Lungern may not be as well-known as Lake Brienz, Lake Thun or Lake Lucerne, but it's certainly worth a trip. Especially as the Brünig Railway, which runs between Interlaken and Lucerne, stops so close to Lake Lungern. 

From the railway station in the Lungern district of Kaiserstuhl, it is only a little way to the lake and its famous landmark, the diving tower of the Lungern Water Park. From here you can sometimes see the lake glowing turquoise in the sunlight, and can enjoy numerous water sports on the lake in summer. At the other end of the lake, in the district of Obsee, you’ll find prettyand historic farmhouses which are fascinating to explore. There are also many walking and hiking trails around Lungern and Lake Lungern, something for every fitness level, and always with enchanting views of the mountains and the lake.

Five tours in three languages - and the best photo spots

The Audiotour Lungern app showcases what Lungern and Lake Lungern have to offer. By installing the free app, which is available in German, English and French, users are taken to a well laid-out introductory page with brief descriptions of five different tours. The text and additional videos give a quick overview of the tours, which range from simple walks to challenging mountain hikes. And of course, clicking on each tour leads to the specific tour site with accompanying texts, pictures and audio files easily accessed in the app. The tours are also designed to lead to the best photo spots in the area; perfect for users who like to share their experiences on social media.

The Audiotour Lungern app offers even more: each tour - including all the highlighted points of interest - is marked on a map. If GPS and location services are activated on your smartphone, your own location and all the points of interest are displayed in real time, making it easy to geographically orientate yourself. Toggle between the map view and a list view to get a good overview of all points of interest. As you approach a place of interest, a corresponding message appears on the smartphone display, so you’ll never miss an attraction. Of course, all detailed information on the points of interest can also be accessed by armchair travellers, you don’t need to be there in person. If you need to save data, the app also works offline.

Great - even for small businesses and service providers

You might be thinking: Doesn't an app with so many functions need a long development time and a large budget? The answer is: no.

The Audiotour Lungern app is based on a robust and proven technical framework, the so-called Tour App Maker by the company Audiotours. This is a web content management system (CMS) with which Audiotours' customers can independently create and manage their apps. Thanks to the Tour App Maker, even smaller tourism providers are able to achieve great things digitally - without a long development time and with a relatively small budget.

For Lungern Tourism who created this tour, the procedure was as follows:

  • Audiotours GmbH provided the technology and the design on the Tour App Maker.
  • Lungern Tourism developed the initial texts, which were subsequently edited by Audiotours GmbH into a spoken version.
  • The German script was translated into English and French by Audiotours and set to music in the studio.

The final app content (text, audio, video) was uploaded to the CMS by Lungern Tourism and the app was published by Audiotours on Google Play (Android) and in the App Store (iOS).

You can see then that for the Audiotour Lungern app, only a few steps are needed to produce the high-quality app that can be used as a digital hiking guide, or as an audio guide while touring the town and surrounding area. App editing, updates and extensions are possible at any time after the initial publication, making sure content is always up to date.
