Project description

"We are pleased to welcome our guests from around the globe aboard the Saphir in twelve languages. Travellers from round the world have been visiting Lucerne since the middle of the 19th century and staying in the grand hotels that you see along the shore..."

By order of the boat excursion company, Schifffahrtsgesellschaft Vierwaldstättersee (SGV), Audiotours GmbH has brought this new audio tour to life and taken on all the relevant tasks, including concept, script, sound and technology.

Maharajas, Dragons and Rack-and-Pinion Railways

The complete audio tour consists of 10 episodes, which are narrated in German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, Hindi and Korean. In six one-hour excursions a day, visitors can learn all about the fascinating aspects of Lake Lucerne and see it in a whole new light.

Upon embarkation, all visitors are provided with an audio guide free of charge, which regales them with anecdotes about the historical, natural and technological highlights along the lake. As well as interesting facts about the lives of queens and Maharajas in the grand hotels of Lucerne, visitors can enjoy legends about dragons that once lived on the mountain by Lake Lucerne.

The "Saphir", SGV’s high-end yacht, greatly enhances the audio tour experience: it is 49 metres long and accommodates 300 passengers, and its design and luxurious facilities create a certain Mediterranean ambience.

In the year 2016 the same audio tour was installed on the "MS Flüelen".

Superior GPS guided audio tours with TriggerPOINT

This audio experience is made possible with TriggerPOINT, the innovative entertainment system specifically developed for use in tourist transportation such as boats, buses or trains. Wireless GPS technology enables automatic and simultaneous replay of pre-recorded multi-language audio commentaries. At the proper moment in time, the information on the places of interest along the round trip is transmitted by radio signal to small receivers with headphones worn by the passengers. The uncomplicated design of the equipment allows the visitors to easily select volume and language.

Overcoming language barriers, acquiring customers

With its new audiotour, SGV extends its 12 language Lake Lucerne cruise to a multi-language experience. With this, it acquires new customer segments both from individual tourism and international group travel. Visitors from all over the world can enjoy superior radio entertainment with enthralling background noises and lively musical accompaniment.

With this emotional experience, SGV expands its range of services and increases turnover.
